Celebrated Iranian filmmaker Kiarostami puts the lens on Uganda where two million children have been orphaned by AIDS. No matter how harsh the reality, there is joy.
Together with his assistant Abbas Kiarostami arrives in Kampala, Uganda equipped with a DV camera to make a film for the International Fund for Agricultural Development in April 2000. During their ten-day-journey they meet thousands of the countless children orphaned by the aids-epidemic that is ravaging the country, and that has become the major cause of death in Africa.

In his film, which was selected for Cannes Film Festival in 2001, Iranian filmmaker Abbas Karostami captures moments of silence and grief, but also of joy and music. He reminds those of us who might have forgotten, of our shared humanity, and that children, regardless of their circumstances – will always find reasons to laugh.
