Hajar and Badr, a girl and a boy whose lives where never easy, meet at a circus school as they are both trying to change their lives.
When Hajar’s mother died, the ten-year-old became the stand-in mother of her little sister. Badr, who has never known his mother, used with his grandfather – a Gnaoua musician who wandered around the city accompanied by the boy. The pair meets at a circus school where they both are enrolled with the hope of escaping their harsh lives.

On the rope is a documentary by Wahid El Moutanna. The film’s producer Nabil Ayouch – a veritable film industry unto himself - is the man behind a number of hugely successful Moroccan films, among them the multi-award winning Ali Zaoua Prince of the Streets.
