Agriculture is the dominant sector in Mali and farmers have a strong public voice. Their loyalty is with the sector, not with governments.
Mali’s population is dominated by farmers who constitute seventy percent of the population. Mali’s farmers are well organized and have a strong public voice. They have played an active and crucial role in the country’s politics since the early days of democracy.

Sometimes they support the efforts of the government but equally often contest policies that they believe are counterproductive to the aim of further development and productivity in the agricultural sector.

An educational documentary about Malian farmers by journalist and filmmaker Jean-Louis Saporito, which aims to put the spotlight on a crucial issue and to prove that the potential for the sector to grow is there.
