The Ebrié people in Cote d’Ivoire acknowledge and celebrate the passage from adolescence to childhood with age-old and elaborate rituals.
In today’s modern world there is still a need for age-old traditions that remind us where we come from and guide us as we move forward.
Every fifth year, the Ebrié people of Cote d’Ivoire celebrate the transition from adolescence to adulthood. Regardless of what position they hold in society or how modern their everyday-life is, every member of the Ebrié society must dress in traditional attire and submit to the purifying baths, ritual anointing and dancing as well as other elements prescribed by tradition.
The director, French-born Maïmouna N’Diaye is a prolific Senegalese actress, TV-host and filmmaker.
