Ratsiraka VS Ravalomanana : Madagascar’s rapid descent into chaos following years of misgovernment and alleged election fraud.
On the 16th of December 2001 one of the poorest countries in the world descended into a state of total chaos after the outgoing President Didier Ratsiraka was accused of election fraud.

When the contesting candidate to the throne Marc Ravalomanana declares himself winner of the election, “The Red Admiral” as the outgoing Ratsiraka is nicknamed, quickly responds by imposing martial law. As a consequence of these events, the country is soon ravaged by violence, plundering and ethnic clashes.

French documentary filmmaker Gaël Mocaer has captured a critical moment in Madagascar’s history in this 2002 documentary.
