As men who are embodying the gods, Haitian homosexual men who are Voodoo practitioners are protected from condemnation of a society that usually frowns upon homosexuality.
​In a country where homosexuality is still considered a sin, the practice of Voodoo becomes a refuge for those who are not part of the heterosexual and normative. Considered as children of the gods, homosexual Voodoo practicing men enjoy divine protection and are granted the freedom to live their lives the way want.
