SILVER BEAR BEST ACTRESS
The 62th ceremony of the international film festival of Berlin took place last 18 of February. Among the impressive hollywood stars parade was a young 15 year-old Congolese girl named Rachel Mwanza, who caused a stir winning the Silver Bear for best actress for her role in the movie Rebelle, directed by the Canadian Kim Nguyen. Besides, the film, which was shot in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was doubly granted as it received the oecumenic jury award.
Rachel Mwanza moved the audience as well as the jury thanks to the sincerity and sensitivity she managed to express through her teenager role desirous to tell her future baby her young past as a child soldier and her first love stories. This orphan and former Kinshasa's street child was overwhelmed with emotion when she got the prize worthy of the greatest. This experience has undeniably turned her life into a fairy tale. Naturally, Rachel Mwanza has decided to continue her cinematographic career. A great revenge which would give us the chance to see her again on screen.
Thus, even though the main african movie named in official competition ("Aujourd'hui", directed by the Senegalese Alain Gomis) don't form a part of the award winners, Africa didn't come back home empty-handed.
