Director (South Africa)

Kyle is a freelance cameraman and director based in Cape Town. He works primarily on environmental and social documentary. A passion for the outdoors and storytelling led him to documentary film making, a career he has been pursuing for the past 6 years. His most recent projects include Brass Boys (eTV 2007), a story about a Brass Band supporting football in Cape Town which was selected for IDFA Kids and Docs, Tokyo Children’s Festival and Kampala International Film Festival; One Person One Note (eTV 2008); Break (SABC and Encounters 2007)) In 2008 he was the onboard filmmaker on his fourth expedition for climate change NGO 2041 down to the frozen wilderness of the Antarctic. Over the past four years Kyle has also shot 3 episodes for the PBS series ’A Last Glimpse’ in Madagascar, Zanzibar and Namibia. In 2004 he was the expedition filmmaker on a river expedition down the Amazon to kayak the last major unpaddled tributary of the greatest river on earth (’Maranon Dreams’(SuperSport 2)). His student film ’Changing Lands’ about farm evictions in the Eastern Cape was selected for the 3 Continents Film Festival. Aside from documentaries Kyle has also shot on three seasons of the reality doccie art show ’Headwrap’ (SABC). He thinks he has the best job in the world and hopes to continue making films that have some positive impact beyond pure entertainment value.
