Playwright, Director, Actor (Mauritius)

Gaston Valayden is a man of the theatre: a playwright, director and actor, he runs the theatre company "Trup Sapsiway" in Mauritius. He acted in about 90 plays in English, French and Creole.

Gaston has also staged various plays and obtained the Prize for the best play in Creole in a writing competition in 2006.

In cinema, he acted in a Mauritian television series as well as in various short movies and five feature films (including Les Enfants de Troumarron, which was awarded the Prix de la Critique at the 2013 FESPACO festival).
Member of the association Porteurs d'Images, Gaston Valayden participated in the second scriptwriting workshop offered by Île Courts - International Short Film Festival of Mauritius, and in 2010 he made his first short fiction, Baraz, an adaptation of one of his plays. The film is an indictment of the communalism used by politicians to keep the power. It has been shown in many festivals abroad, including the Clermont Ferrand International Festival (France), the Ciné Suds Festival (France), the Evreux Festival (France), the Cinematographic Framework of Hergla (Tunisia), the Carthage Festival, etc.
