Director (Mauritania)

Born in Kiffa, Mauritania in 1961, hegrew up in Mali. In 1983 he moved to Moscow to study at VGIK, the State Federal Institute of Cinema, where he shot two shorts. One, Octobre, was presented at Cannes in 2003. In 1998, set within the collection “2000 seen by...” he shot Retour à la terre, its sweetly acid tone reminds us of Aimé Césaire. Heremakono, shot in 2002, participated at various international festivals and won the Critic’s Award at Cannes and the Etalon de Yennenga at Fespaco. In 2006 he shot Bamako at his father’s house in Mali, where questions different international institutions for the injustices Africa suffers.
